Bruno Fert - fotografia di un interno di tenda di migrante

The exhibition of Bruno FertPercorsi interiori. Fotografie e raccolta di testimonianze”, will be inaugurated today, Thursday, 15th February, at 6pm, at the Alliance française of Turin (Via Saluzzo 60). Fert, French photojournalist, will give a voice to the stories of men and women who are fleeing from poverty and war with a photographic project achieved in collaboration with Medici Senza Frontiere. Fert tells the stories of migrants, takes photos of the interior of the tents and temporary facilities in which they found shelter. They are portraits of men and women, of the places in which they live: dwellings furnished with few things brought to the camps in Greece and France as memories of previous lives.

I decided to meet migrants that cross the Mediterranean to seek refuge in Europe, photographing the interiors of their refuges in villages – or “jungles” – both in France and in Greece, and I collected their stories thanks to the collaboration with MSF”, explains Fert. “Dwell is something that we all have in common. Temporary shelters of migrants reflect their personalities in the same way our houses reflect us. I would like people to relate to this common denominator, to enter the house of someone else observing where he/she lives”.

François Dumont, manager of Communication and Advocacy of MSF, will participate at the inauguration to present the commitment of the organization on the topic of migration and to share the testimonies of the people that were helped thorough the migratory route, from the countries of origin to the European borders. The Group of Turin of Medici Senza Frontiere will also offer the try of the viewers at 360 degrees of the Milionidipassi Experience, experience of the exhausting trips of migrants on land and sea, and of the terrible conditions of the refugee camps.

“ We want to put people in the shoes of people that are forced to hit the road, often putting their own life at risk, with the omen that this experience will involve people in helping vulnerable people that we meet every day even in our cities”, explains François Dumont of MSF.

The exhibition can be visited from 15th to 22nd February with the following timetables:

  • Monday-Thursday: 12am – 8pm
  • Friday: 12am- 6pm
  • Saturday: 9am – 1pm

The Stumbling Stones (Stolpersteine) are a widespread and participated monument designed and created by the german artist Gunter Demnig, whose ambitious goal is to remember every single deported into the lagers.
To keep alive the memory of the victims of nazi-fascism, the artist produces small brass plates placed on cubes of the size of the classic porphyry of road pavements, then set in the pavement in front of the last house freely chosen by the victim, or the place where the victim worked or studied.
The commemorative stones are reminiscent of the name, date and place of birth and the death or disappearance of the victims. These informations intende to give back individuality to those lives that during the war were reduced to only a number.
The stumbling block, therefore, metaphorically represents the invitation to reflection for those who, walking through the streets of the city, accidentally come across the history and the destinies of people who could have been our acquaintances. So the memory of what has been effectively enters into the streets that we frequent, in everyday life.

Stolpersteine is the “greatest” decentralized monument in the world. The initiative started in Cologne in 1995 and has led to the installation of more than 56 000 stones in various European countries.
These include Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, France and the Czech Republic,
Spain, Switzerland, Greece, Ukraine, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania and Russia.
In Italy, in addition to Turin, there are in many cities including Rome, Viterbo, Siena, Reggio Emilia, Meina, Padua, Venice, Livorno, Prato, Ravenna, Brescia, Genoa, L’ Aquila, Bolzano, Ostuni, Chieti, Casale Monferrato, Teramo.
The installation is activated by individual citizens, associations or institutions that can request a specific stumbling block.

In Turin recently, on January 18th, eight other stumbling stones were laid, in addition to the 85 already present in the city.

Stumbling Stones Torino has been promoted by the Museo Diffuso della Resistenza, della Deportazione, della Guerra, dei Diritti e della Libertà, by the Jewish Community of Turin, by the Goethe-Institut Turin and by the Associazione Nazionale Ex Deportati (ANED) – sezione Torino, in collaboration with the Istituto Piemonte per la storia della Resistenza e della società contemporanea “Giorgio Agosti” (ISTORETO).

After the conclusion, in November 2017, of the selections for Exhibition, Video and Performance sections, you can start to submit an application and compete to win the Photography Award.

Which are the new possibilities, views, dialectics, paths that are opening into the field of spontaneous and urgent reflection that photography is carrying out on its self, on both a conscious and not conscious level? Out of the field comes form a new expression of the international urban language, and it means: unexpectedly, suddenly and surprisingly.

The expression comes from a technical terminology of baseball. It’s a title that wants to turn the attention on everything that is happening beyond territories that are conventional and known for the photography activity.

At the contest are admitted projects of artists (individual or groups) between 18 and 35 years that live in Italy or in an European country.

The selected project will be presented with a personal exhibition at the project space Autofocus inside the Vanni’s showroom in Turin. It will take place at the same time of the  Salone del Libro, in may 2018, and it will be equipped with a catalog and a subsidy of production of 500 euros.

The World Usability Day (WUD) of Turin will take place in the Aula Magna of the Campus Luigi Einaudi of Turin University, on Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 9:00 am.

It is an annual event, promoted by the User Experience Professional Association (UXPA) and a community of professionals, who work in different fields to ensure that the technology works as a factor in the promotion of the people, the expression, the personal fulfillment and the active citizenship.

These have launched a conversion from consumption to re-use, from property to sharing and circularity. At the same time those, who design and offer products and services, are redefining the design in terms of sustainability, sharing and circularity of the future.

The WUD TO 2016 is an opportunity to try out the (re)design with and for people, and new ways to provide services and regenerated, sustainable, circular products, that are able to bridge the physical gap and to create physical a social impact .
