June is Pride month, which means it is traditionally dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQI community, the rainbow flag and the different sexual orientations and gender identities.

On May 30 th , Piacenza was supposed to be the forerunner, and to start off celebrations in Italy. The series of marches and parades was supposed to end on June 28 th , World Pride Day. However, in the light of the pandemic and its ban on gatherings, in recent weeks events have been gradually cancelled, in Italy as in other countries.

But this does not mean that Pride will not be celebrated in 2020. In fact, over 800 Pride parade coordinators from different cities have decided to join forces to create the first ever Global Pride, a virtual parade to celebrate LGBTQI pride. The event will be taking place on June 27 th : a rainbow wave on livestream will start from Southeast Asia and Oceania, and will move following the time zones, crossing the many countries participating in the initiative. The event will last 24 hours, it will pass through Europe and arrive in America.
