On Friday, 7 July 2023 at 5.30 p.m. in Viale Ottavio Mai, the University of Turin will launch a citizen science project with the aim of mapping which languages – besides Italian – are spoken in Turin. All citizens are invited to take part in a real research project to define – through photographs of road signs, store signs and writings in public places, the linguistic landscape of Turin.

The visual testimonies provided by the participants and shared on Firstlife web platform, https://unightlls.firstlife.org/wall developed by the Computer Science Department of the University of Turin, will enable us to outline the linguistic and
cultural profile of our city.
How many and which languages are used in Turin, and in which particular area? Which areas are monolingual and which multilingual? A scientific committee, consisting of professors at the University of Turin, will subsequently analyse the data collected from various points of view – sociolinguistic, socio-political, educational, geographical, economic – and will present the results during the next European Researchers’ Night on 29 and 30 September 2023 at the Giardini Reali.
The initiative is part of the UNIGHT project involving Turin – for the second year, during Europe’s largest research event – as well as Covilhã, Pau, Chambery and Timisoara, and their respective UNITA Alliance partner universities.
The European Researchers’ Night has always promoted society’s participation in the research process: during the event there are many activities proposed by the University of Turin and Politecnico di Torino as well as by local research centres that focus on the scientific contribution that people can make. In particular, citizen science projects rely on the collaboration with citizens to collect data for a mutual
exchange of knowledge.

This event is part of the Luigi Einaudi Campus’ 10-year anniversary celebrations High Apprenticeship Specialisation Courses: open day Open Day of free High Apprenticeship Specialisation Courses organised by the
University of Turin and managed by Corep Torino.
Thursday 6 July 2023, from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. – SAA University Hall (via Ventimiglia 115) and online

High Apprenticeship Specialisation Courses, set up by the Law, Computer Science and Management departments, are an excellent opportunity to acquire specific skills and knowledge in professional fields that are in high demand in the labour market.
Thanks to the apprenticeship, the students of the specialised course will have the opportunity to work, from the very beginning of the programme, at major companies, applying what they have learnt during their training.
Enrolment deadline: 5 July 2 p.m. on the website https://www.unito.it/…/open-day-master-alto-apprendistato

The master’s degree programme in Cybersecurity offered by Politecnico di Torino – one of the very first application of the education plan proposed by the European Cybersecurity Organisation – aims to fulfil the growing need for specialists equipped with advanced skills in the field of cybersecurity, especially since this deficiency represents a serious threat to our economic development as well as to national and European security.

This curriculum includes four different courses of study related to the distinct job title the students will obtain: Cyber Analyst, Cyber Designer, Cryptography expert and Cyber Legal and Compliance Officer. The four tracks share the first year of the curriculum, while starting from the second year the student will be able to achieve the expertise and skills in a particular area of cybersecurity by attending courses that will characterise his or her professional roles in the cybersecurity domain.

Cybersecurity is an extremely complex area that requires advanced technological skills, but also juridical, economic, and social expertise. The decision to offer a new master’s degree course is driven by the need to combine interdisciplinary skills in the legal-economic field with a solid technological foundation in the field of Computer Engineering. In addition to solid scientific and technological foundations, nowadays cybersecurity experts must also be equipped
with legal skills in civil law – for example the management of the General Data Protection Regulation, which is the European privacy legislation –, criminal law – to carry out forensic analyses properly – and they must have expertise in business economics, in order to manage a cyber risk appropriately, also from the economic point of view.

The students will become cybersecurity experts, a multidisciplinary professional figure capable of operating in the design, development, and management of the cybersecurity of complex information systems, in line with the most important
international standards and frameworks. From a technical point of view, this master’s degree course aims to provide students with the essential skills necessary to cover all cybersecurity phases: plan, protect, monitor, respond and recover.

Since 1998 AlmaLaurea has been carrying out annual surveys on Graduates’ Employment status.

The survey analyses Graduates’ Employment status one, three and five after they have completed their degree and provides a broad snapshot of graduates’ entry into the labour market, the characteristics of the jobs they found (including salary) and the actual use in their work of the skills acquired at university. The 25 th report involved 670,000 interviewees from 78 different universities.

As regards the University of Turin, the survey on employment status involved a total of 26,166 graduates. The University of Turin informs that the data focus on the analysis of the performances of graduates holding bachelor’s degree and master’s degree, interviewed one year after they obtained the degree in 2021, and on those holding master’s degree who graduated in 2017, interviewed after five years.

In addition, for graduates with bachelor’s degree, who have never enrolled in a subsequent university course, the employment rate one year after graduation increased from 76.2% (according to the 2022 Report) to 76.4% (according to the
2023 Report).
The other indicators were also good: the unemployment rate dropped from 10.3% to 9.1%, part-time employment decreased from 21.4% to 19% and wages rose from 1,304 to 1,331 euros per month after tax.
The University of Turin shows a positive trend compared to the Italian national average. Indeed, the employment rate of bachelor graduates at the University of Turin
is 76.4% compared to the Italian average of 75.4%.
The employment rate for graduates with a master’s degree, one year after graduating, compared to the results of the previous report, has increased from 75.4% in 2022 to 77.9% in 2023. In addition, in 2023, the unemployment rate has fallen from 11.6% to 9% and part-time employment has decreased from 18.7% to 14.4%.

The employment rate one year after obtaining a master’s degree at the University of Turin is 77.9% compared to the national average of 77.1%.
The employment rate five years after completing a master’s degree has maintained at the same level of the previous year. On the other hand, the monthly net salary (after
tax) has increases from 1,641 euros in 2022 to 1,696 euros in 2023, the unemployment rate has decreased from 3.8% to 3.3% and part-time employment has fallen from 9.4 % to 8 %. The employment rate five years after obtaining a master’s degree at the University of Turin is 90% compared to the national average of 88.7%.

As regards the employment profile of graduates at Politecnico, the survey reveals that most of them (86.6%) continue studying after their bachelor’s degree, so they enter the world of work only after completing their master’s degree. Among graduates holding a bachelor’s degree, who have never enrolled in a master’s degree course and therefore entered the world of work, the employment rate is 74.6%, compared to the
national Italian average of 75.4%.

However, the most significant figure, concerns the employment rate of graduates one year after receiving their master’s degree, which keeps rising compared to previous years and is significantly higher than the national average: the 90.7% of master’s graduates at Politecnico di Torino are employed, a figure which is much higher than the national average of 77.1%. Compared to the last year, the employment rate one year after completing a master’s degree in engineering has increased to 95.1%; the employment rate of graduates holding a master’s degree in architecture has also been rising consistently, reaching 87.7%.

According to the latest AlmaLaurea data, the percentage of employed people increases further five years after graduation, when it reaches 94% compared to the
national average of 88.7%.
The type of employment of Politecnico graduates is also interesting: 41.7% of them have a permanent employment contract. In addition, there is a significant difference in terms of salary between those who graduated from Politecnico and the Italian average: a monthly net salary (after tax) of 1,632 euros compared to an average salary of 1,366 euros one year after their graduation and 2,013 euros compared to 1,1697 euros five years after graduating. Both figures have been increasing since the previous survey.

The National Day of Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles, “M’Illumino di Meno”, organized annually by Rai Radio2 with Caterpillar since 2005, will be back on Thursday, 16th of February. The aim of this event is to spread the knowledge of environmental sustainability and resource saving.

For this occasion, the University of Turin organized the event. Le Comunità Energetiche Rinnovabili (CER): una bella opportunità… ma veramente per chiunque?”, at the Sala Laurea Rossa Grande of the Campus Luigi Einaudi, from 5 to 7 p.m. The role of UNITO (University of Turin) is to support a
possible energy transition. The event is organized by UniToGO’s Energy Group and the Informal Group on Energy Communities.
It is open to all the people who want to better understand how CER (Renewable Energy Communities) works and what are the advantages and disadvantages in adopting this model.
It will be based on community and energy and how the scientific community of UNITO could use this kind of model, both from a scientific research and operational point of view.

The event will be divided in two phases: the first one will present the principles underlying the CER model, highlighting the good reasons for creating and being part of it, but it will also focus on the many critical aspects of technical, economic, legal, political and social nature of the construction process. In
the second part, there will be a discussion, among all the participants, to understand together the reasons for building an energy community and the practical problems that may arise from it, as well as the advantages of having the University of Turin among the promoters of the project.
