If you want to enrol in a degree course with a limited number of students, you have to take an admission test: if you pass this test, you can enrol by the established date.

Scienze infermieristiche e ostetriche – sede torinese dell’Università Cattolica di Roma

Scuola di Studi Superiori “Ferdinando Rossi”


“Scuola Ferdinando Rossi” provides a multidisciplinary knowledge in various fields of Human and Social sciences and it is open to all students from the schools and study courses of the University of Turin. During the academic year, students must take all the exams in their curriculum; moreover, they must have a minimum grade point average of 27 and they must attend at least 75% of the lessons in their study course.
Students who meet all the necessary requirements benefit from free housing in affiliated hall of residences, reimbursement of tuition fees and a subsidy for studying.

Scuola di Archivistica, Paleografia e Diplomatica

The School of Palaeography, Diplomatics and Archives Administration is a public university for the academic and professional training of archivists and palaeographers. If you want to enroll in the course starting this year, you can do it from 1 to 30 September. Admission to the course is subject to the passing of a test, which consists in the translation and summary of a medieval Latin text and in the cataloguing of
documents.

School of Excellence

A School of Excellence can be a public or private body that selects students who will be able to attend extra courses, together with their academic path. Students are tested, and their selection only depends on worth, not on money. They will receive a scholarship.

In Piedmont there are two Schools of Excellence:  La Scuola di Studi Superiori Ferdinando Rossi e il Collegio Carlo Alberto.
Centro per l’Eccellenza e gli Studi Trandisciplinari (CEST) is an association joining young researchers and students coming from Schools of Excellence all over Italy: Scuole Normale and Sant’Anna of Pisa, the Collegio Carlo Alberto and the Scuola di Studi Superiori of Torino, the Collegio dei Cavalieri del Lavoro “Lamaro-Pozzani” and the Scuola di Studi Avanzati of Roma, the Collegio di Merito “Bernardo Clesio” of Trento, the IUSS of Pavia the Galileiana of Padova. The goal is creating a dynamic group, acting both at a local and national level.

Key-words to understand how University works

Athenaeum

It’s a synonym for University. Every Athenaeum consists of many school which are divided in different departments.

For example, the Università degli Studi di Torino consists of six Schools. One of this is Scuola di Scienze Umanistiche (Human Sciences), divided in Philosophy and Educational Sciences Departments, Humanistic Studies Department, and Historical Studies Department.

Department

It deals with both educational activities and research programs. University professors work in it, both teaching and managing research programs.

Graduation

First level degree for people for students who finish their academic path (180 credits)

 

 

 

 

Master’s degree

Second level degree for students who finish their two-year course (120 credits)

Single cycle Degree

Not every course is a 3+2 year course, some of them are 5 year courses or 6 years courses. Such courses are: Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, Pharmacy, Law, Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary, Dental Medicine, Primary Education Sciences.

Planned access courses

It’s a course with limited entry. There is an admission test which ranks students. Rankings can be local or national.

 

 

 

CFU – Credito Formativo Universitario (University educational credit)

Cfu is used in European Universities to calculate the student’s work. Every University exam is related to a certain number of CFU, depending on how much study it takes. Usually, there is 1 CFU every 25 hours (regardless if the student studies by himself or attends classes). There are 180 Cfu in every first-level degree, and 120 Cfu in every Master’s degree.

Matriculation

It’s a procedure to enrol at University. The name takes after “MATRICULE”, which Is the code given to every new students.

Academic year

It’s the period of time in which classes, exams and internships take place.

 

 

 

 

Semester

Every academic year is divided in two semesters: the first from October to January, the second from March to May. At the end of every lesson period students must take exams.

Exam session

Date of the exam. Dates are published on the Internet.

Exam

Test: it can be oral or written, or both. Marks go from 18 (the minimum to pass the exam) up to 30 with honors.

 

 

 

Study plan

Exams you will have to take. Depending on which school you are attending, you can choose personally how many exams to take, or your University will do it.

Lecture Notes

Notes or slides that teachers provide to their students. They usually contain what he told during the class.

Erasmus

It’s a program that let students study abroad, for six months or one year. Exams taken abroad are officially recognized in Italy.
